Working with Maine CDC, Mid Coast Hospital continues to make progress on vaccinating community members and care team members against COVID-19, with the goal of vaccinating all those who are eligible as quickly as possible.

Mid Coast Hospital announced its first baby of 2021. August Orion Monsen was born at 5:23 a.m. on January 1, 2021 to Chloe Monsen and Kellen Bonnar of Dresden, Maine.

Mid Coast Hospital administered the first vaccinations for COVID-19 to its front-line caregivers today. At 7:30 a.m. Paul LaPrad, MD, became the first care team member at Mid Coast Hospital to receive the vaccine. LaPrad has been a pulmonologist in the community for 25 years, and has been caring for COVID-19 patients at Mid Coast Hospital since March.

In response to the increase in community spread of COVID-19, Mid Coast Hospital is limiting visitors beginning Friday, December 4. They apply to all hospital, medical practices, Walk-In Clinic and Emergency Department locations.

As expected with the return of colder weather, we’ve begun to see a resurgence in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations statewide. At Mid Coast–Parkview Health, we have been planning for additional surges in COVID-19 for several weeks. Mid Coast Hospital continues to care for patients in separate treatment areas and has dedicated care teams for patients with symptoms of COVID-19. This allows for non-COVID-19 inpatient and outpatient care to take place in non-COVID-19 areas.

The annual Gold Star Standards of Excellence Hospital and Healthcare Organization Program Awardees have been announced for 2020. Mid Coast Hospital was recognized for meeting Platinum through the 2020 Gold Star Standards of Excellence program for efforts to prohibit smoking and tobacco use on campus and addressing client tobacco use. This was the ninth year Mid Coast Hospital has participated in the initiative.

Shining Stars
Recently, my husband and my sister have been under the care of the nurses, doctors, and other ancillary providers at Mid Coast Hospital. As a retired medical professional, I want to share how impressed I am, as they, with the loving kindness we have been surrounded by during the past few months.

Incredible Care
We received incredible care from the time we walked into the Emergency Department until she was delivered to the curb to go home.
