| H1N1 (SWINE) FLU UPDATE for employees 4-30-09 |
There are some case of Swine Flu in Maine-mild so far-none at MCH
- We have activated our Pandemic Flu Plan (available on the INET)
- We are focusing all of our actions to control the spread of illness
- Ask patients entering our system to wear a surgical mask if they have respiratory symptoms (cough, sore throat, runny nose)

Say, “Because we have flu in Maine, we need patients with symptoms to wear a mask just as a precaution. Thank you for understanding.”
If you need assistance with this, page the Nurse Director on call during the day or the Clinical Consultant other times.
Visitors:
- You will notice we have asked visitors to use waterless soap upon entering the building
- Ill visitors should be asked not to visit. Page the Nurse Director on call or the CC if you need help with this.
Employees:

Stay home if you have a fever and respiratory symptoms

Beep Vicki 818-1432 if you’d like to discuss

Report sick calls with “flu like” symptoms to Vicki

Practice good hygiene-BACK to BASICS!!!!

Wash hands or use waterless hand soap frequently

Cover coughs and sneezes

Use N95 masks for direct care of patients with symptoms- reuse until further notice. Masks not recommended yet for other staff. Beep Vicki or CC for questions or if you need a mask.
- Clean your keyboards, phones, etc. frequently. This is everyone’s responsibility. Make it part of your daily activities.
- Make a family backup plan for childcare etc. We need you to keep the place running.
We will be updating you regularly as information is available.
Remember our best defense is a good offense.
