Excellence in Healthcare Confirmed!

Mid Coast Health Services is committed to leadership in healthcare within our community. As part of our vision for the future, we rely on several indicators to continuously measure and improve the quality of care that we provide.

At the close of 2013 and beginning of 2014, we were visited, surveyed, and evaluated by many of our national and state accreditors and received news that we once again have been honored with the stamp of excellence. Within the past six months…
  • Mid Coast Hospital received reaccreditation by The Joint Commission for demonstrating compliance with national standards of health care quality and safety in hospitals. It is the only local hospital to carry this Gold Seal of Approval and one of only five Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers in the state.
  • Mid Coast Hospital has again achieved Magnet® designation, an honor bestowed upon less than seven percent of hospitals nationwide by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association. The recognition attests to the hospital’s ongoing commitment of delivering high quality, excellent nursing care to its patients. Magnet designation (held by Mid Coast since 2009) is the highest and most prestigious international distinction a healthcare organization or hospital can receive for nursing excellence and outstanding patient care.
  • Mid Coast Senior Health Center’s Bodwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Mere Point Long-Term Nursing Home had a successful annual survey from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Both federal and state survey visits are opportunities for the government to review documentation and care practices, ensuring that services provided by our facilities are among the very best.
  • CHANS Home Health Care achieved reaccreditation by The Joint Commission. CHANS has maintained Joint Commission accreditation since 2001, verifying that the agency is providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.
  • CHANS Home Health Care was recertified by Maine Department of Health and Human Services with a deficiency–free rating, which is very rare for home care agencies to receive. CHANS has now received two successive deficiency-free surveys from DHHS, the last one in early 2012.
These recognitions are well deserved by the nurses and staff of Mid Coast Health Services. At each of the site visits, surveyors were very complimentary and spoke highly about the facilities, staff, and quality of patient care that we deliver. This is what sets us apart as a leader in healthcare and speaks to our commitment of delivering the absolute best care to the Midcoast community.
