Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary Honors Five High School Seniors

Five high school seniors from four mid coast high schools have received scholarships from the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary to pursue healthcare careers.

The students are among the 30 recipients who are currently receiving renewable health career scholarships, for which the Auxiliary has raised $40,000 this year. The scholarships are granted only to students attending accredited institutions of higher learning and are renewable if the students maintain grades of C or better. Funds are granted to both full and part time students. Funds are raised through the yards sales, gift shop, book sales and book signings, bake sales, wreath sales, a holiday bazaar and donations.

Awards went to the following June high school graduates:

Mt. Ararat High School—Caroline Ducharme, daughter of Joan and David Ducharme of Harpswell, who will attend Saint Anselm College, Manchester, NH, majoring in nursing, and to Shauna Ferry, daughter of Lisa and William Carter of Bowdoinham, who will attend the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in nursing.

Morse High School—Lianna Soreide, daughter of Jim and Kathleen Soreide of Phippsburg, who will attend Endicott College, Beverly, MA, majoring in nursing.

Brunswick High School—Victoria Burkhart, daughter of Michael Burkhart and Karen Rice of Brunswick, who will attend Saint Joseph's College, Standish, majoring in nursing.

Lisbon High School—Kaylee Morin, daughter of Noreen and Paul Morin of Lisbon, who plans to attend Central Maine Community College, Auburn, majoring in nursing.

In addition to the awards given to high school graduates, continuing education scholarships were given to seven individuals currently working in the healthcare field. Another 18 students are currently receiving scholarships.

Auxiliary scholarship committee members, Barbara Gray, Dorothy Moore, Ellen Hutchinson and Beverly Diller presented the scholarships at local high school award ceremonies. Linda Belmont chairs the committee.
