Gifts from Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary to Hospital and Community Top $1 Million

The Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary recently made its final payment on a $150,000 pledge toward the new Emergency Department waiting area, bringing its support in major pledges for the new Mid Coast Hospital campus to $800,000.

In addition, since the hospital opened in 2001, the Auxiliary has donated more than $250,000 to the community in health career scholarships to worthy Mid Coast students, bringing the Auxiliary's support to more than $1 million.

When the new Mid Coast Hospital opened, the Bath and Brunswick Auxiliaries donated $400,000 combined. The two organizations joined forces to become the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary, raising pledges of $100,000 toward a new parking lot, $150,000 toward a CT scanner, and most recently, $150,000 toward the Emergency Department waiting area.

Smaller gifts to the hospital were made through the years in continuing support of the popular Healing Gardens; the Teddy Bear Club (which provides new stuffed animals to young patients); and the Palliative Care Heart to Heart program.

The Auxiliary is able to support Mid Coast Hospital at this level because, as Abigail Manny, Auxiliary President, says: "Community support and countless volunteer hours make this possible."

The next fundraising event is a Valentine Bake Sale, Friday, February 11, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (or until supplies run out) in the Mid Coast Hospital Café Corridor. Donations of home baked goods may be taken to the Volunteer Office on Wednesday and Thursday, February 9 and 10, where volunteers will package the donations for gift giving. The annual Spring Used Book Sale will be held April 7 and 8 in the Mid Coast Hospital Café Conference Rooms.

Manny also announced that the Auxiliary's Grand & Glorious Yard Sale will be held May 13, 14, and 15, at the old Bookland store site in Brunswick's Cook's Corner Mall. Times for donation drop-off and arrangements for pick-up will be announced soon.
