Volunteer Positions Available

Auxiliary Fundraisers
The MCH Auxiliary holds several fundraisers throughout the year and needs many volunteers to help with these projects.
Breast Health Center
Volunteers process data which requires some computer skills, answer the phone, help with health fairs, etc.
Volunteers greet customers, work the counter, package foods and much more!
Café Cashiers
Volunteers staff the cash registers.
Volunteers help with bulk mailings, data processing and other functions as appropriate.
Digestive Health Center
Volunteers make beds, serve meals to patients, copy, assemble charts, answer the telephone, run errands, discharge patients, etc.
Emergency Department
Volunteers make up stretchers, keep blanket warmer filled, retrieve medical records, help with families, transport patients to Imaging, stock rooms and help the staff in any way possible.
Emergency Department Waiting Area Greeters
Volunteers welcome all who come to the ED, assist with transporting patients into the ED and more.
Fiscal Services (Accounting)
Volunteers file, copy and run errands for the staff.
Food and Nutrition Services
Volunteers assist with bagging silverware, preparation of salad bar, transporting food to Café, running errands, assist in Café if necessary, and help with patient tray distribution.
Volunteers work in the healing and patio gardens, planting, weeding and watering in season. No mowing is necessary.
Gift Shop
Sponsored by the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary and a major Auxiliary fundraiser.
Hand Massage
These volunteers need a medical background and must complete the hospital hand massage training program.
Health Information Management
Volunteers assist with filing and other clerical duties.
Volunteers work with the Community Education Coordinator in the Medical Office Building at 11 Medical Center Dr.
Information Desk
A wide range of tasks!
Intensive Care Unit
Volunteers answer the telephone, run errands, copy, assemble charts, assist with families of patients, and generally assist the nursing staff in the most helpful way possible.
Volunteers knit lap robes for the Behavioral Health Unit; newborn caps, sweater sets, and blankets for the Maternity Unit; and prayer shawls for the palliative care office. This work is done at home.
Mail Room
Volunteers assist in the mail room with sorting and delivery of mail.
Materials Management
Volunteers assist with various clerical duties in Central Stores and the loading dock.
Maternity Unit
Volunteers are receptionists for the unit, greet visitors and patients, “buzz” patients and families onto the unit, as well as other tasks that may be appropriate.
Medical Office Building #1 Information Desk
Volunteers greet patients and visitors and direct them to destinations.
Medical/Surgical Unit
Volunteers answer call buttons, direct patients and families to their destinations, sit with confused patients, assemble charts, run errands, copy, transport specimens to lab, and generally assist nursing staff in any way possible.
Palliative Care
Volunteers are specially trained to work with patients and families in life threatening situations, assisting the palliative care social worker, both at the hospital and Mid Coast Senior Health Center.
Pet Visiting
Pets of volunteers may be considered for pet visiting, provided the animals are well behaved and in good health, and can furnish proof of up-to-date shots from a vet. The volunteer/pet team does have to meet certain criteria to participate.
Physician Practices
Volunteers perform clerical work in physician practices in Topsham, Brunswick and Bath upon request.
Public Affairs
Volunteers work with the staff in producing a variety of publications.
Special Projects
The Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary holds several fundraisers a year, and is always seeking new volunteers to help with these projects.
Spiritual Care Program
Volunteers are specially trained to participate in spiritual care for patients and their families. Volunteers must be accepted into the program by meeting with the Spiritual Care advisor.
From spring until late fall, volunteer provide the Trolley service for patients and families in the parking lots. Two shifts a day are needed. Drivers must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid Maine driver’s license.
Visiting Committee
This committee is under the Quality Department where volunteers survey patients to assess their level of satisfaction and provide a friendly visitor to lonely patients.
Volunteer Services Office
Volunteers perform clerical duties, work on mailings etc.
Wheelchair Gurus
Volunteers keep the wheelchairs in good, working condition, make repairs where possible or take to Engineering, make sure two legs are on each chair and find the parts on the patient units.

Orientation and training are provided for all volunteer positions.
