Emergency Care

Our emergency department (ED) was designed with patient comfort in mind. Our goal is to intake patients efficiently, reduce waiting time and quickly provide expert treatment. Our ED is warm and inviting, with spacious private rooms for patients and families. Services include on site x-ray imaging and diagnostics tests for more informed care decisions when every moment counts.

You’ll find experienced and board-certified physicians, nationally recognized nurses with advanced certifications, speedy connections to electronic medical records, state-of-the-art diagnostics, and prompt access to doctors on staff.

Our goal is to get you cared for and back home as soon as possible, but if you need to be admitted for additional medical attention, the area's most modern and caring in-patient facility is just one floor up. And if you require extra treatment at a larger tertiary hospital, our partnerships with Maine Medical Center and other major hospitals assure that you’ll receive the highest quality care.

In case of life-threatening emergencies, such as chest pain or shortness of breath, please call 911.

Advanced Life Support Program

Mid Coast Hospital's advanced life support program provides 24/7 paramedic support as well as volunteer rescue teams. Our service area is Wiscasset to Freeport and includes Georgetown, Harpswell, Orr's Island, Bailey Islands and Cundy's Harbor.

The program operates MC1, a licensed emergency vehicle. When responding to a call, MC1 has the same Code 3 privileges as an ambulance, fire truck or police car. MC1 is NOT an ambulance; it does not transport patients. MC1 and its paramedic staff create a "virtual emergency room" at the scene of an accident or other medical emergency.
