Mid Coast–Parkview Health Names Martins as Communications Leader

Currently the director of communications and public affairs at LincolnHealth, John Martins will assume responsibility for communications at two local health systems within MaineHealth.

John Martins, who has nearly 25 years’ experience in health care communications in Maine, including the past three years as director of communications and public affairs at LincolnHealth, has been named as the communications director at both LincolnHealth and Mid Coast–Parkview Health.

Martins will lead a team that will support the needs of both local health systems that includes Alex Seise, senior manager of communications and public affairs, and Cara Sullivan, communications and public affairs specialist – both of whom have been supporting Mid Coast–Parkview Health. They will be joined by Michelle Lunt, who has been named a communications and public affairs manager after working most recently in a specialist role at LincolnHealth.

"I am especially pleased this arrangement will give us an opportunity to benefit from John’s experience,” said Lois Skillings, president of Mid Coast–Parkview Health. A former journalist, Martins’ career as a communications leader in the health care industry dates to 1998 when he supported Goodall Hospital in Sanford as communications director, first working through a consulting firm and then directly for the hospital as an employee.

Martins also spent 10 years in state government, spanning both the administrations of Gov. John Baldacci and Gov. Paul LePage, as the director of employee and public communications with the Maine Department of Health and Human services. Martins joined LincolnHealth in 2019.

"In John we get someone who knows Maine, knows health care and knows how to communicate effectively with the communities we serve. I am confident he will be an effective spokesperson for our organization as we pursue our vision and mission on behalf of our communities,” said Skillings.

Martins replaces Judy Kelsh, who has moved into a senior role on MaineHealth’s Marketing and Brand team supporting initiatives across the health system serving 11 counties in Maine and Carroll County, N.H.

In his role, Martins will be responsible for external and internal communications, making sure patients, employees and the broader community are aware of the incredible work done every day at Mid Coast–Parkview Health and LincolnHealth.
