Practical Tools of Intercultural Engagement

A Lunch and Learn Series for Service Providers

Mid Coast-Parkview Health’s Community Health Improvement will offer a lunch and learn series that is appropriate for anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding of cross-cultural understanding and empathy, and develop a trauma-informed approach. Each session is one hour, and registrants can sign up for one or all.

Topics include:

  • Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes - This session focuses on the development of empathy and compassion across different lived experiences. Thursday, June 15 at 12 pm.

  • Working across cultures: Stepping out of your comfort zone - This session focuses on practical skills for attending to self while interacting with others. Thursday, July 20 at 12 pm.

  • Lost in translation: Language and trauma - This session focuses on understanding the connection between language, emotions and experiences of trauma across cultures. Thursday, August 3 at 12 pm.

  • What’s wrong? Figuring out cross-cultural misunderstandings - This session focuses on exploring assumptions and biases that occur in the health, educational and community service systems. Thursday, September 21 at 12 pm.
